Accountabilities / Responsibilities

The Pre-Admissions nurse is responsible for assessing and coordinating of data submitted by the physician offices for patients who are scheduled for surgery. Pre-screens health history and identifies the high-risk patients and alerts the anesthesia provider of potential risks identified during the investigation of health needs. Initiates and completes the pre-op call information and organizes the patient charts for the upcoming surgeries. Possesses organization skills, computer skills, and develops a good working relationship with the physician offices.

Key Responsibilities :
  • History & physical nursing assessment of patients
  • Completes review of medical record
  • Admits patients according to procedure
  • Promotes physical comfort and provides emotional support and safety for patients
  • Reinforces and clarifies physician instructions and explanation of procedures to patients
  • Provides nursing care and appropriate monitoring according to policies and procedures
  • Communicates relevant information to physician, facility manager and appropriate staff
  • Verifies surgical/procedure site with patient and according to surgical schedule, patient and the history and physical
  • Obtains and verifies operative/procedure consent
  • Reviews charts for completeness and signatures of physicians
  • Initiates appropriate infection control measures
  • Serves as a back-up teammate in the pre-op/PACU department


Qualifications

  • Graduate of accredited school of nursing
  • Current licensure in the State as a Registered Nurse
  • Must be current in BCLS
  • ASC experience preferred
