WHAT IS THE ROLE ABOUT?  This Editorial Product Director for the Spanish Language Arts initiative is a new role on VHL team. This Director will be a key strategic partner in refining existing products and processes while also driving the strategic direction and development of new products and programs in the K12 and C&YA market segments.

IN THIS ROLE YOU WILL:

  • Actively contribute to and participate in the overall strategy and pub planning of Spanish Language Arts and C&YA programs and corresponding teacher support materials.
  • Oversee the editorial development process and functional areas, including: conceptualizing, planning, budgeting, and prototyping of a new product; managing the writing and editing phases of manuscript and tech development.
  • Contribute to the technology development plans, provide critical evaluation of product and business needs, and document business requirements.
  • Manage, train, mentor and coach a team of Editors on SLA specific best practices, products and market needs.
  • Collaborate with other leaders and internal stakeholders to establish effective and efficient processes and workflows between groups.
  • Partner with EVP of K12 & General Manager to establish and maintain editorial development guidelines and processes.
  • Manage the SLA department budget.

YOU MUST HAVE (MINIMUM REQUIRED SKILLS & EXPERIENCE)

  • Bachelor’s degree minimum required
  • 5+ years of experience managing teams directly (freelancers and/or employees)
  • 7+ years of experience as an Editor building comprehensive ‘core’ products in the K-12 Spanish Language Arts (SLA) market
  • 10+ years of Editorial experience within educational publishing
  • Prior experience building and conceptualizing new SLA products and programs
  • Full proficiency of Spanish grammar and language skills
  • Expert knowledge of the needs and landscape of the K12/young adult (ages 18-24) and SLA market/industry
  • Strong knowledge of editorial (print and digital) processes and best practices including pedagogy
  • Prior experience working on and creating ‘digital first’ or ‘digital only’ products
  • 10% travel required (though more if remote)

IDEAL IF YOU HAVE or ARE (PREFERRED SKILLS & EXPERIENCE)

  • MATESOL Certification
  • A strong strategic thinker and are able to effectively pivot between initiatives and related challenges
  • Project Management experience

LOCATION

Hybrid or Remote: Our ideal candidate would be based in the Boston, MA area and work on a hybrid schedule. We are open to remote applicants for this position. Remote employees are expected to travel to our Boston, MA office on an as needed basis. Candidates must meet this requirement in order to be considered.
