Position Summary:

Highly visible position in an active education office overseeing immigration for the school's One-Year Certificate Programs and active involvement in the admissions process. Under the direction of the One-Year Certificate Program and Admissions Manager, serve as the Designated School Official (DSO) for the Department of Homeland Security's Student and Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS). Responsible for advising and assisting international students with all immigration and visa matters.


Essential Functions and Duties:

International Student Advisor DSO Responsibilities – 50%

  • Serve as SEVIS DSO for the One Year Certificate Programs
  • Advise prospective and current F-1 students regarding all immigration matters.
  • Issue the Form I-20 to all new and continuing students and students on OPT
  • Oversee student weekly attendance records in accordance with SEVIS guidelines and follow up with faculty regarding any missing attendance records.
  • Monitor SEVIS Alerts and Lists.
  • Develop and conduct International Student Orientation with supporting materials.
  • Conduct OPT Seminars and prepare OPT applications.
  • Support students currently on OPT with SEVIS reporting and other immigration matters.
  • Ensure that all international student records are current and up to date.
  • Update all international student documents to create ease of communication and include any policy updates.
  • Collaborate with the FT team on the international student admissions process for prospective and One-Year Certificate students (in association with the Director of Education, One one-year certificate Program and Admissions Manager, One-Year Certificate Programs Coordinator, and Program Chairs)
  • Maintain confidential student records, reports, and office data.
  • Prepare letters and certifications of acceptance, enrollment, and successful completion for funding applications, deferral of military service, SSN applications, on-campus employment, passport, and visa renewals.


Admissions Responsibilities – 30%

  • Correspond with prospective and accepted students on all matters related to their application and matriculation into the One-Year Certificate programs.
  • Help oversee the student matriculation process from admittance through orientation for the OYC programs in association with the One-Year Certificate Program Manager and the One-Year Student Liaison.
  • With the One-Year Certificate Program Manager, assists with the production and distribution of Acceptance Letters and Tuition Agreements.
  • Schedule and organize onsite and online OYC program Admission Information Sessions for potential and accepted students.
  • Together with the One-Year Certificate Program Manager, assist with producing and distributing Welcome Packages and the OYC Student Handbook.
  • With the One-Year Certificate Program Manager, schedule and organize the Student Welcome Day and Student Orientation sessions.
  • Process Program Acceptance Deferment Requests.


Additional Duties 20 %:

  • Participate in One Year Certificate Programs' Open Houses and Info Sessions
  • Assist with the logistics of academic activities and student-related events as needed
  • Assist the One Year Certificate Program Manager with the coordination, organization, and administrative maintenance of the One Year Certificate Programs

Education Qualifications:

  • BA or BS required
  • SEVIS training preferred.
  • Master's degree in international education, Higher Education Administration, Counseling, or Student Affairs preferred

Experience Qualifications:

  • 2 or more years' experience preferred in international student services/advising and SEVIS
  • 2 or more years' administrative experience preferred in an education, arts, or photographic environment.
  • Must be a US citizen or permanent resident as required by Federal regulations for use of SEVIS.
