What Will You Do

As a Utility Locate Technician, you will use use computer-generated utility maps and specialized equipment to identify (flag) and mark underground cables, pipes, and other underground utilities to prevent damages and ensure public safety. Essential Duties

1. Responding to Requests and Emergencies:

  • Drive to sites in response to routine ticket requests and emergencies.
  • Relocate as needed to address urgent situations promptly.

2. Utilizing Mapping Tools and Equipment:

  • Utilize provided mapping tools, location information, and specialized equipment.
  • Locate underground utilities such as electrical cables, gas lines, and communication lines.

3. Marking Utility Locations:

  • Indicate utility locations using paint and flags.
  • Communicate relevant information to excavation personnel and authorities.

4. Handling After-Hours Call-Outs:

  • Respond to after-hours emergency call-outs based on established rotation schedule.
  • Maintain daily contact with utility managers, excavation crews, homeowners, and contractors to address locate issues.

5. Prioritizing Work and Interpreting Maps:

  • Prioritize work by reviewing all locate requests to determine routing.
  • Read and understand utility-provided maps/prints to identify underground utilities effectively.

6. Field Environment Work:

  • Spend 95% of job time in a field environment with some administrative tasks.
  • Perform utility locates in various locations throughout the day, facing hazards like uneven terrain.

7. Using Specialized Equipment:

  • Perform utility locates by transmitting signals onto cables or pipes and following their paths above ground with specialized equipment.
  • Mark paths with paint and flags to ensure accurate identification.

Equipment Provided

Each Locate Technician will be provided with the following:

  • Company vehicle
  • Laptop computer
  • Digital camera
  • Cell Phone
  • Broadband internet device
  • Utility Locating Equipment (weighing approximately 15 pounds)

Status & Schedule: This is a Full-Time position, working Monday-Friday with overtime as needed.

Qualifications

  1. High School Diploma or GED
  2. Valid, unexpired Driver's License
  3. Prior work experience working as a Field Technician or performing in a role that services local territory or field-based work outdoors is preferred

Other Job Skills & Abilities

  • Previous utility locating or damage prevention experience is preferred but not mandatory
  • Technical Aptitude & familiarity with technology
  • Adaptability: Ability to work in various weather conditions and adapt to different job sites and locations
  • Communication Skills: Strong verbal and written communication skills to effectively communicate with team members, customers, and clients.
  • Physical Requirements: This position requires walking, standing, lifting, and walk 3-5 miles outdoors in various environments.

Please note: This position is subject to pre-employment a background check and drug screen as well as random drug screens.

Rate of Pay

The starting rate of pay ranges from $18.00/hour to $25.00/hour and is based on experience in locating.
