Job Description Summary

The Head Strength and Conditioning Coach develops and administers sport-specific strength training programs for university athletic programs, focusing on injury prevention and performance training. They will oversee the strength programing for 23 Division II athletic programs as well as our Division 1 Men’s Ice Hockey program. The Strength and Conditioning Coach meets regularly with coaches to determine what type of training the athletes need. If working with an injured athlete engaged in rehabilitation, the Strength and Conditioning Coach will consult with the sports medicine or athletic training staff.

Essential Duties

  • Develop, implement, and monitor sport-specific strength training programs and sport-specific speed, agility, and conditioning programs for teams and individual athletes.
  • Work in partnership with administration, coaching staff, and athletic training staff to provide an integrated program of injury prevention and performance training.
  • Monitors the weight room and safe lifting techniques of student athletes.
  • Develop and implement summer programs designed to increase student athletes’ performance.
  • Travel to home and away games with our Division 1 Ice Hockey program and or Football program as needed.
  • Coordinate training facilities schedule and equipment maintenance in the varsity weightrooms.
  • Establish policies, plans, and procedures for the safe and professional operation of the weightroom facility.
  • Ensures compliance with policies and rules of the university, NSCA, NCAA.
  • Manage the Assistant Strength and Conditioning Coach.
  • Additional administrative responsibilities may be assigned as necessary.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Masters Degree in Exercise Science or related field
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience strength and conditioning coaching
  • Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (C.S.C.S.) through National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) and or Strength and Conditioning Coach Certified through Collegiate Strength and Conditioning Coaches Association (S.C.C.C.)
  • First Aid/CPR certification or ability to obtain

Preferred Qualifications

  • Understanding of human anatomy, physiology, and biomechanics
  • Ability to interact effectively with students, coaches and staff.
  • Strong organization, interpersonal, and communication skills
  • Experience working with heart rate monitors, catapult, force plates, etc.
  • Enthusiasm and capacity for self-motivation
  • Computer literacy in Microsoft Office and web-based applications
  • Understanding the compliance of NCAA rule and regulations

Work Environment

  • Nights, weekends, and holidays expected.
  • Exposed to loud noise due to the nature of collegiate athletics on a daily basis.
  • At times, overnight or day travel is required, must be available "on-call" when needed.

Physical Demands

  • There is a large amount of physical skill required. Some examples are demonstrating an exercise; setting up workouts; carrying weights and equipment;
