Overview

The System Administrator IV position will be responsible for managing and maintaining the NOAA's IT infrastructure, ensuring its reliability, security, and efficiency. This position requires strong technical expertise, problem-solving skills, and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage and administer the organization's server infrastructure, including installation, configuration, maintenance, and troubleshooting of servers and associated hardware and software.
  • Monitor system performance and reliability, proactively identify and resolve issues to minimize downtime and ensure optimal performance.
  • Implement and maintain security measures to protect the integrity and confidentiality of sensitive data, including access controls, firewalls, and encryption.
  • Conduct regular system backups and develop disaster recovery plans to ensure data availability and business continuity in the event of a system failure or disaster.
  • Collaborate with other IT team members and stakeholders to plan and implement system upgrades, migrations, and new deployments.
  • Provide technical support and guidance to junior administrators and end-users, including troubleshooting complex issues and providing timely resolution.
  • Stay current with emerging technologies and industry trends, evaluate their potential impact on the organization's IT infrastructure, and make recommendations for adoption or integration.
  • Maintain documentation of system configurations, procedures, and troubleshooting steps to facilitate knowledge sharing and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Participate in on-call rotation and respond to after-hours incidents and emergencies as needed.
  • Adhere to established policies, procedures, and security standards, ensuring compliance with relevant regulations and contractual obligations.


Responsibilities

  • Must be able to work independently to provide input and recommendations into the design phase and successfully execute requirements.
  • Must be able to install and configure the following: Red Hat Identity Management/clients/related services, Red Hat Satellite Server, Active Directory, Red Hat Ansible Tower, System Center Configuration Manager, and PKI infrastructure
  • Must excel at troubleshooting complex problems to resolution.
  • Must be able to configure and install virtual desktop infrastructure and Enterprise backup solutions.
  • Must be able to alter kernel settings.
  • Must be able to tune system utilizations for memory, processes, and network performance.
  • Must be able to train and mentor Junior Level SAs-
  • 8-12 years of experience with planning, designing, and installing virtual hardware/software within an Enterprise data center
  • Must have 1 or more certifications: Red Hat Certified System Administrator (RHCSA), Red Hat Certified Engineer (RHCE), VMWare Certified Design Expert - Data Center Virtualization, Microsoft Certified Systems Administrator (MCSA)

Eligibility/Clearance Requirements: Must be able to provide proof of U.S. Citizenship and is able to be cleared at the Public Trust Level
