Position Summary:

The Maintenance & Controls Technician will manage automation controls to ensure production lines are running efficiently. The candidate must possess the ability manage installation and correction of tooling, fixtures and machines involved in continuous flow production. Also, they must have the ability to work with various brands of PLC, PC and motion control products.

The desired candidate should have knowledge of SAFE practices in dealing with volatile chemicals in a CLASS1 DIV1 environment. Expertise in technical writing and documentation skills using CAD and Microsoft Office are needed along with a knowledge of Six Sigma and other problem-solving tools including Lean, 6S and Kaizen.



Responsibilities

Position Responsibilities:

  • Assist with creating conceptual designs for fixtures, gages and special tools.
  • Supports process corrections to various manufacturing support-related tasks such as tooling fixtures and validation, assuring key characteristics and tolerances are managed.
  • Conducts and/or participates in team meetings to improve products and processes.
  • Working knowledge of progressive methodology to eliminate variation, such as, Design of Experiment (DOE) and Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA).
  • Determines and implements corrective action plans.
  • Completes activities of Lean Sigma projects and process improvements
  • Documents all changes through the Manufacturing Engineering process control system.
  • Resolves technical production problems on assigned product lines working with shop employees and quality personnel.
  • Initiates improvements in current manufacturing methods and processes to improve part quality, schedule performance and to reduce manufacturing costs.
  • Interfacing regularly with process development teams by developing manufacturing processes including process flow and outputs, manufacturing process instructions and production documentation.
  • Aiding product development teams with the development of essential production and process control deliverables including equipment qualification and control, process failure mode and effects analysis (PFMEA), process verification and validation, manufacturing documentation and final product release.
  • Assisting in authoring operations plans, product build plans, test protocols and final reports.
  • Understanding and applying engineering tools including: FMEA, APQP, Gage R&R, statistical techniques (Cpk, SPC), design of experiments (DOE) and problem solving (i.e. DMAIC).
  • Supporting the Quality System in respect to production and process controls. Developing Standard Manufacturing Procedures (SMPs), implementing and training others for product specific Work Instructions (WIs), and creating in-process control systems.
  • Provides on-going shop floor support, supervision of maintenance team members, for all assembly methods for assigned product lines.
  • Trains shop employees on improvements to manufacturing methods, products and new production equipment.
  • Respond to calls from plant personnel when equipment breakdowns occur.

Position Requirements:

  • Two-year Degree in Instrumentation or Engineering discipline and at least 2 years of relevant experience in manufacturing environment providing direct manufacturing process support.
  • Previous experience using risk management tools such as PFMEA’s or other control plans.
