Reporting to the Director of the Counseling Center, the Staff Clinician provides a coordinated and comprehensive array of treatment services aimed at enhancing the academic, emotional, and social development of students while promoting respect for self, others, and the diversity within the University community.

Essential Functions / Characteristics

  • Provide individual and group counseling with students experiencing personal, social, family, or related concerns while adhering to ethical and legal standards.
  • Consult with students, administrators, faculty, staff, family members of students, and off-campus treatment providers on matters related to the Counseling Center.
  • Periodic on-call and after hours crisis management, as assigned by Director.
  • Contribute to the training and development of interns and post-doctoral fellows.
  • Conduct crisis appointments, post-hospitalization meetings, psychological assessments, and other specialized clinical interventions.

Additional Functions

  • Participate in psycho-educational outreach programs, as requested by University administrators, faculty, staff, and student organizations.

This is a 10-month full-time (40 hours) position.



Job Requirements:
  • Master's degree in counseling, social work, or related field, OR a doctoral degree (Ph.D., Psy.D., or Ed.D.) in counseling or clinical psychology from an APA-accredited program.
  • Must hold an active Rhode Island professional license or obtain a Rhode Island professional license for independent practice within 1 year of date of hire.
  • Individual and group treatment skills with additional experience in crisis intervention and case consultation.
  • Ability to work extended hours and represent the Counseling Center on infrequent occasions for campus events, emergency situations, and outreach programs.
  • Ability to be sensitive to marginalized identities and cultural differences as well as an active commitment to practices informed by equity, inclusion, and diversity.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working with diverse clients, eating disorders, group counseling, sports psychology, or substance use.
  • Experience designing or coordinating campus-wide mental health education programs.
  • An internship or post-doctoral fellowship in a university counseling center.
  • One year of post-degree experience in a university counseling center.

At the University's discretion, the education and experience prerequisites may be accepted where the candidate can demonstrate, to the satisfaction of the University, an equivalent combination of education and experience specifically preparing the candidate for success in the position.
