Position Summary

NORD has an exciting opportunity for a Medical Affairs Assistant to work collaboratively with the Rare Disease Centers of Excellence Team to provide ongoing support to the Rare Disease Center of Excellence Working Groups. Each Working Group is focused on addressing a high-priority unmet need related to rare disease care and will work collaboratively to develop solutions that can be leveraged across the network, and potentially beyond, for the benefit of patients with rare diseases. The Medical Affairs Assistant will also support communications with and meetings of the Advisory Committee which is composed of the Directors and Associate Directors of the Rare Disease Centers of Excellence.

The NORD Rare Disease Centers of Excellence Program brings together teams of clinical experts in a nationwide network of cutting-edge facilities, with the goal to provide standards of specialized care and disease management for people living with rare disease and their families and accelerate rare disease research.

This position is ideal for a college graduate pursuing professional experience before applying to medical or graduate school, including genetic counseling programs.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Assist and support the day-to-day operations of the Rare Disease Centers of Excellence Working Groups:

  • Facilitate scheduling of virtual monthly and ad hoc meetings for working groups.
  • Support working group co-chairs in preparation of meeting agendas.
  • Attend virtual meetings and follow-up with meeting notes, including action items.
  • Provide ongoing support between meetings to co-chairs and working group members, i.e., perform literature searches, execute focused, systematic internet searches, draft surveys, and track projects.
  • Assist co-chairs with yearly presentations about working group activities and progress to Advisory Committee.
  • Meet with supervisor regularly to discuss working group projects and progress.
  • Facilitate scheduling, agenda development, and logistics of Advisory Committee Meetings.
  • Perform other duties and functions as assigned.

Education/Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in relevant field required.
  • Experience working collaboratively in committees or working groups and experience performing medical/scientific literature and internet searches required.
  • Knowledge of genetic and rare diseases preferred.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish or other language(s) preferred.

  • Exceptional troubleshooting and conflict resolution skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office; basic familiarity with virtual meeting and survey platforms
  • Flexible and able to prioritize new tasks
  • Adept at working virtually as part of team
  • Some knowledge of medical disease terms preferred

Working Conditions

Position will be primarily telecommuting with minimal travel.
